Jamie Davies (1965 - 2026)
In July, we said goodbye to the man who started Emerge - a musician, teacher, friend, mentor and, above all, someone who believed in what people could achieve when they were given the opportunity to express themselves.
FOREVER SMILING
FOREVER SMILING

For those of us at Emerge, it is difficult to put into words what Jamie meant to us.

Because Emerge wasn't simply something Jamie worked for.

Emerge was something Jamie passionately believed in.

Jamie founded Emerge because he saw the difference that music and the arts could make in people's lives. He understood that music could be so much more than learning an instrument or standing on a stage.

It could be a way of communicating.

A way of building confidence.

A way of making friends.

A way of finding your voice when you might otherwise struggle to be heard.

And most importantly, a way for people to find somewhere they belong.

That is Jamie's legacy.

Not a building, not a job title.

But a genuine love for people and a responsibility to make a difference.

For Anna, Jamie was of course much more than the founder of Emerge.

He was her husband, her best friend, the father of her children, and the person she shared this incredible journey with.

Together, they built something that became a huge part of the lives of so many people.

Working side-by-side, they both possess a rare quality - the ability to see something special in everyone, helping to unlock talents and nurture skills.

Jamie had a way of making people feel that they mattered.

Because they did matter to him.

For those of us that worked with Jamie, he was a constant source of energy, ideas and encouragement.

Jamie never wanted people to be defined by differences, or what they couldn't do.

He wanted to know: What can you do?

What would you like to try?

What could you become if someone gave you the chance? That belief shaped Emerge, and it is something we want to carry forward.

Perhaps the best people to describe Jamie were our learners who spent the best part of 12 years experiencing Emerge alongside him.

Some remember the music, some remember the (bad) jokes, some remember the endless encouragement, some remember his patience when things weren't quite working, and all of us remember the first time walking out on stage with him.

For many of our learners, Emerge has become a place where they can be themselves.

Jamie helped create that.

He helped create a space where people could pick up a guitar, sit behind a keyboard, sing their favourite songs, play drums, write a song or simply join in — without worrying about whether they were "good enough".

Losing Jamie has left a huge hole in Emerge. There's no changing that. For those of us who remain, there have been difficult days. There have been moments when we've looked around and thought, What do we do now? But, this is Jamie's legacy. We are determined to keep going.

To keep helping people find their voices.

To keep making music.

To keep creating opportunities and putting people on stages. To keep laughing.

To keep learning.

And most importantly, to keep smiling. Because we all have something beautiful to smile about.

And we will keep trying new things, because it's what Jamie worked so hard for.

There will undoubtedly be changes. This is a new chapter for Emerge, and none of us can know exactly where it will take us.

But the foundations Jamie built are still here.

Thank you, Jamie. We wish we had more time with you, but we're sure you're still rocking and rolling beside us.

You gave people a reason to believe in themselves.

And you gave all of us something worth carrying forward.

So, from Anna, from all of us who have worked alongside you, and most importantly from the learners whose lives you touched:

Thank you.

Thank you for believing in people.

Thank you for believing in music.

Thank you for believing in Emerge.

And thank you for starting it all.

We promise we'll keep the music playing.

Fly high, Jamie. We'll keep making you proud.
